Science Progression of Skills
At Queen Victoria, we are committed to providing a high-quality Science education that inspires curiosity, develops critical thinking skills, and encourages a lifelong love of learning. We want our children to be naturally inquisitive about the world around them. We want to embrace their sense of wonder about natural phenomena and guide them into developing an understanding of the uses and implications of Science, how it has changed and shaped our lives, whilst allowing our children to begin to recognise the importance of it in every aspect of daily life.
It is our intention to deliver a high quality Science education where children are inspired to ask questions and investigate the world around them. Our curriculum has been designed so that key scientific principles and ideas are introduced progressively ensuring that all children have the opportunity to develop a good understanding of the overarching scientific concepts. Through hands-on investigations and experiments, children have the opportunity to consider how they can work safely, collect scientific data and draw conclusions effectively.
Science teaching at Queen Victoria involves adapting and extending the curriculum to match all pupils’ needs to ensure they are challenged and achieve success, regardless of their starting point. From our Science learning, we want to embed a sense of responsibility towards the environment and encourage children to think about how their learning in class directly relates to careers in Science through focus Scientists. Lastly, our curriculum is designed to equip pupils with the foundational knowledge and skills needed for scientific study at secondary level and beyond, whilst embedding cross-curricular links with mathematics, technology, and literacy.
