Assessment At Queen Victoria Primary School
At Queen Victoria Primary School, we are committed to providing an excellent education that empowers every child to reach their full potential. Our assessment practices play a crucial role in supporting this mission, ensuring we can track progress, identify areas for growth, and tailor our teaching to the unique needs of each child.
Statutory Assessments
As a primary school, we adhere to the statutory assessment requirements set out by the government. This includes the EYFS Profile at the end of Reception, the Phonics Screening Check in Year 1, The Multiplication Tables Check in Year 4, and the Key Stage 2 SATs at the end of Year 6. These assessments provide us with valuable data to measure the progress of our children and the effectiveness of our teaching.
Ongoing Assessment
Alongside these statutory assessments, we employ a range of formative and summative assessment strategies to monitor progress throughout the year. This includes:
- Termly progress tests in core subjects
- End-of-unit assessments to measure understanding in foundation subjects
- Daily formative assessment during lessons to inform future teaching
- Little Wandle phonics assessment tracking
- Accelerated Reader Star Tests
- Peer and self-assessment opportunities
By using this comprehensive assessment approach, we can ensure that every child is supported and challenged to achieve their personal best.
Sharing Progress with Parents
At Queen Victoria Primary School, we believe in strong partnerships with our families. We regularly share progress and attainment information with parents through termly parents’ evenings, end-of-year reports, and statutory assessment reports. Additionally, our teachers maintain regular, informal conversations with parents to ensure they are fully informed about their child’s development.
For children with special educational needs and disabilities, we hold regular SEND review meetings to discuss progress, set new targets, and ensure the appropriate support is in place.
By embracing a holistic approach to assessment, we are able to provide a nurturing and challenging environment where every child can thrive. Our commitment to excellence, responsibility, and compassion is reflected in our assessment practises, as we work tirelessly to help our children grow into confident, caring, and successful individuals.
Tracking Progress
To keep track of each child’s progress, we use our school’s bespoke Sonar tracking system. This allows us to closely monitor attainment and identify any areas where additional support may be needed. We then use this information to tailor our teaching and interventions, ensuring that every child is given the tools they need to succeed.
How do we use our assessment information at Queen Vic?
Every half term our senior leadership team meet with class teachers to discuss the assessment information during a pupil progress meeting. This ensures that every child’s progress is discussed so we can address success, concerns and discuss our next steps.
