Whole-School PE Overview
At Queen Victoria we believe that Physical Education (PE), is essential to ensure children attain optimum physical and emotional development as well as good health and well-being in a safe and supportive environment. We want the children’s experience of PE to be positive and motivating and provide the foundations for lifelong activity. We want them to succeed and excel in competitive sport and physical activities. We offer all children the chance to compete in sport and other activities through their time at Queen Victoria. This helps them build character and learn values such as fairness and respect. Through PE, we develop the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding and build their confidence and competence across a range of activities.
PE is taught weekly through the Get Set 4 PE framework from EYFS to Y6. Starting in EYFS to build foundational gross motor skills alongside the outdoor environment with bikes and schools. The curriculum provides fun and ambitious learning through a range of activities including invasion games, net & wall games, striking and fielding games, gymnastics, dance, swimming, and outdoor & adventurous activities ensuring the requirements of the National Curriculum are met.
In addition, throughout their time at Queen Victoria pupils also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports clubs, to compete against other schools and in tournaments, to attend Bikeability and take part in outdoor and adventurous activities at a residential at Ashley Burf.
